Where to Look to Buy a Car in Mexico

So you’re here and set up and are now thinking about buying a car. That’s easy enough to do. The big question, though is usually where to buy or at least, where to look.

Before you head online to start car shopping, there are a few things to be aware of before you make a purchase. One is that vehicles here, anywhere along the coast, suffer from salt air damage. It’s not usually fatal unless the car is 50 years old and lived out its existence here, but it’s something to keep in mind.

It’s also important understand that the natural elements are hard on cars, which is why it is common for people to shop in other states. A lot of people shop for cars in Merida, Yucatan (the next state over). Sure it’s a 3-hour drive (each way), but if you’re serious about buying a good one-time used car, make a weekend out of it. It could be worth the effort.

In the meantime, here are some online places to get you started. You will need some basic Spanish to narrow down your search by type and region, but you’ll get the hang of it!

There are dozens of places to buy cars, but here are some online sites dedicated to just vehicles that you may find helpful.
